A new economy that works for everyone

The EU has become the world's largest economy and leading trading bloc through decades of economic integration: this achievement has brought higher incomes, peace, stability, and improved well-being across the bloc.

However, in the face of current challenges such as the climate crisis, geopolitical tensions, digital transformation, and social polarisation, it is crucial to update our economic framework. As a progressive party, Volt envisions a Union that promotes innovation, effective taxation, and sustainable investments, rejecting the idea that we have to choose between growth, equality, and sustainability.

Volt aims for a shift towards sustainable prosperity, advocating for policies that support economic, social, and environmental well-being all at once. By leading this transition, Europe can contribute to global development and strengthen democracies worldwide.

Our plans for creating jobs paying fair wages and wealth fairness are part of this vision, redefining governance and enhancing the social safety net for all European citizens on the path to shared prosperity.

Investments in the industry of the future

We can tackle climate change, achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and boost the EU's competitiveness, if we increase financing for research and innovation. By tripling funding to Horizon Europe, we can revitalise underfunded public services, such as healthcare and education, while supporting digitalisation, sustainability and the creation of a European defence industry.

A green economy for a greener future

At Volt, we believe in embedding ecological sustainability in trade agreements, while channelling the proceedings from widespread carbon pricing into green initiatives to boost sustainability. Concurrently, our proposed regulatory standards will combat planned obsolescence and champion circular practices, reducing material waste. Furthermore, the Critical Raw Materials Act will expand to encompass compulsory licensing for critical resource exports, guaranteeing resource availability.

A deeply integrated European market

At Volt, we strive for a greater integration in the European market and we aim to bridge the financing gap between Eastern and Western Europe. Small and medium-sized enterprises are essential to Europe’s prosperity: that’s why we want to implement a Small Business Act reserving 25% of public contracts for European SMEs and enforce robust corporate governance through fair taxation.

The 5+1 Challenges

Volt has defined 5+1 fundamental Challenges that need to be tackled in each European country and in Europe as a whole.

Why 5 + 1 Challenges?

The 5 Challenges are basically the same for every country, but their implementation can be adapted on the national level to take into account local realities.

The +1 Challenge – our proposal to reform and strengthen the EU – is identical across all our national programmes.
