Priorities of the enhanced Policy Programme are: EU Reform, Climate Protection, and Health

"Volt is lining up for the 2021 federal election—completely digital and without the risk of infection!" Friederike Schier, 22, Chairwoman of the Board Volt Germany

Germany - On the European level, a digital General Assembly was held in May 2020, which set the organisational and programme for Volt, the Pan-European political movement. Now the German branch has followed suit with the first successful online General Assembly of Volt Germany, taking place over the weekend 15-16 August.

"Not only are our work processes completely digital, but we also can hold large events with several hundred participants without the risk of contagion for our members, thus ensuring sustainable party work " says Friederike Schier. "The digital assembly is cost-effective for the party and participants, and more environmentally friendly due to the elimination of journeys from all over Germany. Nevertheless, I miss the personal exchange within the movement, and am therefore looking forward to the next Assembly, once there is a lower risk of infection, so that we can again meet in person" adds the Chairwoman of the Board.

The General Assembly of Volt Germany, originally planned for the end of March 2020, had to be postponed at short notice due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Over the weekend, the extension of the party's Policy Programme was discussed in detail. German members of Volt participated in the event via the digital platform “Tusker”, which was developed by Volt Europa. With the help of the tool, they were able to ask questions, submit motions of order and register speeches. Voting was also anonymous via Tusker. Interested parties could follow the Assembly live on YouTube. The organisational team and the chairpersons of the meeting received a big round of applause for their excellent work.

The expansion of the Policy Programme of Volt Germany includes the core demand of the movement for a reform of the European Union, numerous measures in the fight against global warming, and a commitment to support the German nuclear phase-out. In addition, demands for an improvement of working conditions in the health care sector were added to the Policy Programme.
