Brussels, 29 March 2023 Volt, the pan-European party, celebrates its sixth birthday today.

In six years, Volt has grown into a pan-European movement with more than 27.000 members in 31 countries and over 125 elected representatives who work everyday to build a more just and sustainable society. Millions of votes have been cast in support of the vision of Volt.

In the last 3.5 years in the European Parliament, Damian Boeselager and his team had a tremendous impact on laws affecting Europe's non-personal data markets, introducing Volt’s priorities into Europe's biggest budgetary instrument in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, and fundamentally reforming and Europeanising the EU elections. You can read more in this accountability report.

In Isernia, Italy, we secured funding to provide free therapy sessions to high school students. In Siegen, Germany, the city council has approved a request by Volt that abolished restrictive swimwear rules applying only to women and now allows all people, no matter the gender topless bathing. In the Netherlands, our Parliamentary Faction secured €100 million for free school meals for children in need. Our movement is vibrant and we participated in demonstrations to support Ukraine in dozens of cities in Europe one year after  the invasion. These are only a few examples of our activities in 31 countries.

Our work across Europe has reinforced our belief that we cannot solve the cross-border challenges of today from within the borders of our countries. Be it climate change, biosecurity, safety and emerging technologies, they can only be tackled through international cooperation and collective action, which is the essence of a pan-European party.

We are thrilled to announce that Volt Europa received a sizable donation of €500,000 from the Dreamery Foundation—the largest sum ever given to a  pan-European political party! Through the appointment of 10 new employees, who will streamline our work in advance of the 2024 European elections, we will utilise it to improve the organisational foundations of Volt Europa. Their presence is much anticipated and will strengthen our mission of tackling cross-border challenges.

“Now more than ever, the war, the economic crisis, unfolding consequences of climate change, as well as the rise of authoritarian governments, indicate that we need a strong and unified European Union to secure a prosperous future for all," said Francesca Romana D'Antuono, co-president of Volt. “In the run-up to the European elections, we are working even harder to create a more democratic, sustainable and equal EU, starting with the co-creation of a truly inclusive and participatory electoral program, in which people from all walks of life and expertise come together to create shared solutions”.

Volt is active on all levels of government and is determined to win seats and drive reform in upcoming national, regional, and local elections. Volt aims to build a Federal European Democracy. In the future, the pan-European movement plans to participate in the European elections in all 27 member states and form the first truly pan-European political faction in the European parliament, by winning25 seats from seven member states.
